Southwind 02:46
Southwind Standing in the station at Jackson boulevard I love to listen to the sound The humming of the rail, like the wind behind a sail Dreaming I could go and leave this town (chorus) South Wind Blowing to my old Kentucky home South wind Wishing I had never left to roam A child of seventeen, didn't know just want it means To pack it up and leave my home behind This factory life is cruel, got me working like a mule This Windy City's made me so unkind Walking down the sidetrack as she rolls into town I love to hear that lonesome whistle whine But when that factory whistle screams, I close my eyes and dream I'm cruising down that L&N main line

Boat On The Ocean Yesterday you told me Another love you'd find If I didn't give you reason Enough to change your mind I know the path that I've been taking Ain't the man I want to be Is it too late to say I'm sorry Will you stay or will you leave? (chorus) Seems to me you're like a boat out on the ocean Beaten by storms beyond the bay I can see your silhouette on the horizon Are you heading home or sailing far away? We've got the kind of love comes and goes with the tide Always ends up on the shore Where the waves and rocks collide Yet another frozen morning You're somewhere lost at sea But I find myself here dreaming That your lying next to me (bridge) Maybe with a tailwind A little break in the weather We could chart a course That just might bring us back together

West Montana Coal Camp When the final days of winter Bring brighter shades of green Gray skies turn to blue And usher in the spring I'll make my way back down From here on Rogers Pass This Rocky Mountain winter How much longer can it last (chorus) From a west Montana coal camp On the Northern Railway line Let the Fast Mail take my letter To that one true love of mine Digging coal out of the mountain Down below it's dark and damp Spent the frozen days of winter Living in this mining camp It was almost February When the coldest winds did blow The lowest one recorded Down to seventy below I'll be leaving in the springtime When the weathers on my side And the winter snow has melted Up here on the great divide Instead of just a letter What I wish that I could do Is jump aboard that train myself And come on home to you
4.
Boot Hill Grave I told her that I wasn't gone to stay When I headed out to California The folks there mining her for gold Had all the riches they could hold Could have been the key to set this family free From the shackles and the chains of poverty When you make it through Nevada And you see the bear flag wave Then you know you're getting closer To my lonesome Boot Hill grave Rumors in the year of forty nine Tales of riches filling up my mind The promise of a better life For my children and my wife I rode the train as far as it would run With nothing but a suitcase and a gun I got into a card game with a man Who held more than four aces in his hand I was desperate enough So I called him on his bluff Still a hundred miles from Sutters Mill Killed for just a dirty dollar bill
5.
Gold star mother One morning in April, she said goodbye to her son As he laced up his combat boots, Uncle Sam gave him a gun To some far away country, he went to risk life and limb Just a few short months later, the news she received was so grim. (chorus) There's a gold star mother with a love like no other Her baby will never grow old He left home a young man, defending homeland His blue star's exchanged for a gold On a cold winter’s night, a mother stares up at the moon Through tears in December, she remembers one taken too soon An empty chair at the table, no presents there under the tree His courage and valor, left a family stricken with grief. A flag and a candle, sit on her mantel these days The pride that she feels in her heart, still won’t ease the pain She prays for a world without war, and a peace that will last Where a Gold Star Mother, just might be a thing of the past.
