lyrics

West Montana Coal Camp

When the final days of winter
Bring brighter shades of green
Gray skies turn to blue
And usher in the spring

I'll make my way back down
From here on Rogers Pass
This Rocky Mountain winter
How much longer can it last

(chorus)
From a west Montana coal camp
On the Northern Railway line
Let the Fast Mail take my letter
To that one true love of mine

Digging coal out of the mountain
Down below it's dark and damp
Spent the frozen days of winter
Living in this mining camp

It was almost February
When the coldest winds did blow
The lowest one recorded
Down to seventy below

I'll be leaving in the springtime
When the weathers on my side
And the winter snow has melted
Up here on the great divide

Instead of just a letter
What I wish that I could do
Is jump aboard that train myself
And come on home to you
